The I Know You Are But What Am I President

I read today about one of the debates between trump and hillary. She railed him for being Putin's puppet. Trump eloquently responded, "no puppet. you're the puppet." clip here

It's constantly been his go to move. He’ll do something immoral/illegal/unethical/unpresidential, but will accuse someone else of the same. he's the "i know you are but what am i" president.

he accused doctors and nurses of complaining about a lack of life-saving supplies, because they wanted to be on tv. But, trump is the one continuing to get air time and brag about his “tv ratings” months after he should have muted himself so that the rest of us could listen to the truth from the actual experts instead of the self-serving lies of our president.

doctors and nurses are risking their lives without supplies and he’s accusing them of trying to get tv time. he projects his mistake of not making sure we had more than enough supplies on a national level on to others while forcing the blame on them. Which leads to outrage pointed at Trump from anyone with a shred of common sense. And “I can’t believe doctors and nurses would stoop so low” to his loyal followers. The blame game makes zero sense, but works so well among his base that it's still actively being employed in the middle of the worst presidential failure of all time...eff those nurses, i need the heat taken off of me.

and then there's the time he accused new york of letting masks out the back door. it wasn't until 4/2 that trump announced he was finally using the defense production act that he didn't invoke until 3/18. we needed a national supply chain with dramatically increased production months ago instead of the current market where states have to outbid each other for scarce supplies.

But, instead of admitting fault trump asked on 3/29 why NY needed that many masks and implied that someone was letting them out the back door. Simple math would have told him why more masks were needed. But, he failed to do the most basic calculations when he knew it was a problem in January only to call it a hoax a month later, do little for another month and then blame someone else that supplies were thin. Not only did he accuse hospitals of having a back door mask leak, he added “you ought to look into that as reporters”. Palm to forehead.

In the age of trump it doesn’t matter how well reasoned your counterargument is to his nonsensical words and actions. He’ll just keep shifting blame. He’ll call democrats evil or terrible people, because that’s who he is. The people trump calls terrible are the ones trying to get us universal health care. Who oppose amazon being able to fire people who speak up against deplorable, life-threatening working conditions as the company pays $0 annually in federal taxes.

Amazon founder Jeff Bezos made headlines for his $100M donation to fight coronavirus. THAT is evil. He’s worth $123B.  the man makes $200 million a day. His workers are on the front lines of this pandemic, potentially sacrificing their lives. And Bezos won’t let them unionize (and fired more of them today for speaking out), but their work is essential. His employees are dying for his profits and he generously drops half of one day’s pay to “help”.

But according to trump, democrats who are actually trying to help are terrible. How dare they try to give us health care and tax the rich? What evil people. Blame. Anywhere, but on trump and his billionaire supporters.

today's blame projection by trump is the all-timer. defunding the World Health Organization in the middle of a worldwide pandemic with the following statement, "Those tasked with protecting us by being truthful and transparent failed to do so. It would have been so easy to be truthful. So much death has been caused by their mistakes."

it's as if the administration had a meeting to accurately assess all they'd done wrong. then just figured out who could take the blame, crossed out “trump” and added “WHO”. (like trump did when he crossed out “coronavirus” and wrote “chinese virus” on his press conference script) die hard always Trumpers will eat that up and spend days talking about how awful WHO is.

republicans, with the help of fox news, have created an alternate reality where the truth is irrelevant. Hate is the only thing they need. It’s not did trump tell the truth, it’s who did trump blame? That’s who we’ll hate. And it’s been years in the making that libs, Obama, dems and others have been the bait. The switch has been the death of American democracy.

While republicans are hating whoever trump tells them to, liberals are outraged by every trump offense. As long as both groups are focused elsewhere, the republican brass have free reign to rape lady liberty, consolidate power, line the courts with far right judges, have a cabinet that is full of conflicts of interest, rig a supreme court that will convene via teleconference to tell Wisconsin they had to go to the polls in person (we don’t want you to vote or we’ll lose, so we’ll force you to risk your lives. That court is not supreme. It is not just. It’s an embarrassment to the rule of law. And is pure evil. Human life put at risk to try to steal a state supreme court seat.) etc. Even the watchdog of oversight of the coronavirus relief, Glenn Fine, has been relieved of his duties.

When you control all the checks and balances and call yourself a “total authority”, there’s no point in continuing to pretend we’re living in a “we the people” democracy. They have control. Of the republicans minds. And of our country.

It’s not make America great. It’s make America hate.

Case in point, imagine Obama as the current president. What if he handled the pandemic the way trump has? It’s not even possible to imagine the level of outrage among republicans if the 10s of thousands dead and over 10 million unemployed had happened on obama’s watch.

but, trump’s overall approval rating is 49% or 3 points higher than Obama at this stage in his presidency. That is…there’s no big enough word to describe that insanity. But, that number got one upped.  republicans currently approve of trump at a…I literally can’t fucking type this without continuing to shake my head, mouth won’t close from shock…utter disbelief. 89%.

The country is in actual ruins. And every step of the way Trump downplayed the virus and underprepared for what was coming. He muzzled the experts and talked for hours as if he had anything to say. 600k cases. 26k dead. Both numbers are way low, because of a lack of testing. when one person who had ebola flew to the US, Trump demanded Obama’s resignation. But, he’s self-grading his pandemic response and giving himself rave reviews. So are his followers.

It literally just takes an “(R)” at the end of someone’s name to see them in a completely different light. Trump can be a draft dodging, war hero insulting, dictator befriending, ally abandoning, serial raping, pathological lying, tax hiding moron who literally embodies what makes America the opposite of great and his supporters still approve of him. he could vomit diarrhea for an entire press conference and republicans would say it’s not his fault, he’s just CNN intolerant.

But, put a “(D)” behind the name of the exact same person and every Republican would see that he’s clearly the anti-christ. One fucking letter makes this guy a danger to all of us. if the same words trump is saying came out of a democrats mouth, never mind an African American democrat, there would be no end to the outcry.

It is so confusing to a logical mind. sub Hillary or Obama in trump’s current situation. Have them say the same words. Use the same alternative facts. And have the same horrible results. And the 89% approval rating Trump enjoys would be near zero among republicans. “we know you’re killing us, but we love you.” That guy? Come on. That’s jim jones shit on a national level. Trump is the cross you’re willing to die on?

All of it is so out of bounds. Out of body. Out of the realm of possibility. And so is this pandemic. How in the hell did we get here? We have not only the incredible mental toll of being locked in our homes worrying about how we’re going to stay healthy and survive financially, but we also have the added mental strain of knowing Trump is who got us here.

And, we have to listen to him take credit for doing a great job while defunding and blaming WHO. If you could draw a pandemic response blueprint that was the exact opposite of making America great, this would be it. the only way taking credit makes sense is if he actually is a puppet.
